THE CHAI WALLAHS

WHO ARE THE CHAI WALLAHS? The Chai Wallahs have been making Chai products since 2003. Our Chai Honey is unique and was created 10 years ago to compliment our Masala Chai. It is made by blending Local Honey with authentic Spices found in traditional East Indian “Masala” Chai. The fresh spicy blend of Cardamom, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves and Black Pepper are suspending in creamy, unpasteurized honey waiting for that piece of toast, tea, coffee or special recipe. It is packed with flavour! The spices are exceptionally good for you and Gluten Free. (There is no tea in the honey, just spice)
WHERE CAN WE BUY YOUR PRODUCTS? We sell our product in 25 stores in Central Alberta and we have an online store available through our website. Our Calgary stores are Piece on Peace in Shaganappi and ReWorks Upcycle (online since Covid). In Airdrie we sell at Homegrown House and Pantry. There are 2 sizes of Chai Honey available. 320g ($15) and 640g ($25)
DO YOU INCLUDE RECIPES? It comes with a printed list called “Top 10 Ways to Use Your Chai Honey” which makes suggestions for what to use it for and has our special recipe for Spiced Nuts. We can ship anywhere is Canada before Christmas.
Chai Wallah means Tea Seller. We are not Indian and although we are deeply passionate about Chai this does not come from our heritage.

Miss Mac Glass – Olive Oil Bottles

WHO IS MISS MAC GLASS? Deanna McGillivray born and raised in Calgary AB works between her home studio and glass blowing studio in Canmore. If someone had asked a young Deanna what she wanted to be when she grew up, the reply every time would have been “I want to be an artist”. With a strong interested in both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional mediums such as painting, drawing and ceramics, she applied to attend the Alberta College of Art and Design.
With the original intention of perusing the photograph or ceramic arts, Deanna encountered hot glass in her very first semester and was immediately attracted to this unique and challenging art form. The draw to the heat, flame and precarious nature of working with a material you not only couldn’t touch but also was partly liquid at times provided endless challenges and fascinations.
“The dance of glassblowing is delicate, smooth and seamless. A juggling act between hot and cold, solid and liquid along with a touch of magic.”
Deanna McGillvray- Miss Mac Glass
Post graduation in 2007, Deanna starting blowing glass at the Hot Glass Studio in Canmore, run by Canadian glass artist Susan Gottselig. She formed a creative community between Canmore and Calgary, which gave her not only a beautiful place to work but also mentorship that helped her formulate her developing art practice. In 2013, Susan retired and Deanna along side three fellow glass artists took over the shop to form Fireweed Glass Studio.
“Working in Canmore and having a unobstructed view of the Three Sisters mountain range from the studio window provides endless inspiration. I could not ask for a better place to quietly observe the ever changing seasons, the unique wildlife of the Rocky Mountains along side the teal blue glacier rivers and lakes. The drive between Calgary and Canmore is equally spectacular. It’s a true joy to transition between the bold yellow canola fields into the rolling foothills and mountains. I continuously draw on these colour pallets and integrate them into my glasswork. ”
Working with blown glass allows the exploration not only of artist forms but functional work as well. Recognizing what “good design” feels and looks like, Deanna often creates work that is meant to be interacted with.
“Even an olive oil bottle has characteristics that make it comfortable to use. I often joke to visitors that come through my studio to watch glassblowing, just how mindful I am about the amount of glass I am using for each piece. The last thing you want is for that olive oil bottle to feel awkward and heavy when you’re in the throes of cooking.”
You can check out Deannas work through her website at www.missmacglass.com. She has an online store through Etsy and ships through out Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. Her work can also be found at galleries and gift shops through out Alberta and BC.
